This past Friday, December 8th, God dropped a surprise on Alabama. We went to bed on Thursday evening with the National Weather Service and our local weathermen saying that we might get a few flurries on Friday morning but not enough to stick or impact travel around the area. At 4:30am I awoke and decided to quickly check the weather. We tend to get excited here over just a few flurries. When I turned on the TV, James Spann, our famous local weatherman was doing a special report and saying that overnight things had changed and the National Weather Service had upgraded our area to a Winter Storm Warning. They were now predicting 1-3 inches in our area. Not long after I turned on the TV, they mentioned our area and showed a picture someone had sent in to the studio of a car covered in snow. I ran to the window and looked out and low and behold it had been snowing enough already to cover the top of our suburban and it was starting to stick to the ground.

Before all was said and done, we ended up receiving a little under 8 inches here at our home. It was unbelievable for Alabama! It typically snows a good snow here every 3-4 years and when I say good snow, I mean 1-3 inches. We might see snow flurries once every winter but some years we don't even see that. Anything above a couple of inches is amazing for our area. It was also amazing that it snowed non-stop for 10 hours! It started at 4:30am on Friday morning and didn't stop until 2am on Saturday morning. The father south of Birmingham that you were, the more snow you got which is another amazing thing. Usually the farther north you are, the more you get. The snow moved across the southern states from Texas into Georgia. It was beautiful and we had so much fun playing in it and watching it come down all day long. I felt like I was in a Hallmark movie.
So fun to see our home covered up in snow!

Just down the road from our home, this tree fell across the road from the weight of the snow.

I'm writing this post 5 days after our big winter wonderland surprise. Their is still a small bit of evidence in our front yard of the snow that we had from the very large snowman pictured above that the kids made. Today, that snowman birthed a baby frosty.
